Andre Gomes is on Jose Mourinho's Manchester United wishlist, the Chelsea coach Antonio Conte wants a Stephan Lichtsteiner reunion while Chelsea consider a Michy Batshuayi bid. It's Thursday's Paper Round.

Andre Gomes on Mourinho's summer wishlist

Valencia's Andre Gomes is on Jose Mourinho's transfer wishlist according to the Daily Mail, as the former Chelsea boss seeks to further revamp the United squad. After signing Eric Bailly from Villarreal yesterday, United will turn their attention to Gomes, who has impressed for Valencia after arriving from Benfica. Mourinho apparently devised transfer plans for the two clubs that were vying for his services - United and PSG.
Paper Round's view: While all the attention is on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nemanja Matic, Gomes would bring some creativity to the side, perhaps at the expense of Juan Mata. United's midfield and attack haven't functioned as well as it could over the last couple of years, struggling at times to break good defensive teams down.

Antonio Conte wants Stephan Lichtsteiner at Chelsea

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is intent on raiding his old club Juventus for Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is valued at £12 million. It is believed that Juventus landing Dani Alves from Barcelona will make Lichtsteiner's place in the Juventus team uncertain. Conte will try to capitalise on this, looking to snap up the 32 year old Swiss international. Lichtsteiner moved to Juventus in 2011, as one of Conte's first signings as manager.

Paper Round's view: Lichtsteiner is a versatile player. Mostly a full back, he can push up into midfield and even wide positions. It is the kind of experience that you need in big games. Considering the issues Chelsea have had in the full back positions in the past season, it's probably a good move even if Lichtsteiner is approaching the end of his career.

Chelsea consider swoop for £31 million Michy Batshuayi

The £31 million-valued striker Michy Batshuayi could be targeted by Chelsea, according to the Mirror. After rejecting a move to West Ham earlier in the month, Batshuayi has insisted moving to a bigger club which has tempted Chelsea into considering a bid. The Marseille striker was apparently in talks with Tottenham before they refused to be held to ransom for the large transfer fee and are now targeting AZ Alkmaar's Vincent Janssen. Batshuayi is reportedly down the list of striker targets as Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata are both available.

Paper Round's view: Batshuayi will be compared to fellow Belgian compatriot Romelu Lukaku, even though he's a different player. While arguably a better finisher than Lukaku, he's not as good in the air or holding up the ball as the Everton number nine. Of course, he's not the finished product yet, but may be worth taking a gamble on.

Liverpool and West Ham consider move for Thomas Vermaelen

The Reds and Hammers are reportedly chasing Arsenal turned Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen, according to the Sun. Vermaelen has played just eleven games for the Catalan giants in two years and is reportedly looking for a move back to the Premier League with West Ham and Liverpool keen on signing the Belgian. However, the report says there's been no official contact over a potential transfer, as Vermaelen apparently prefers the Hammers and their new home at the Olympic Stadium to Liverpool.

Paper Round's view: Would be an extraordinary coup for either club. Vermaelen has been kept out of the Barcelona team on form, but is a more than capable player to bounce back. Considering Liverpool's issues in the heart of defence, Vermaelen is a steady and cool head that could be of real benefit to Jurgen Klopp as he tries to plug the holes that have proved to costly in recent years.
