Maarten Stekelenburg received praise throughout the week for two penalty stops last weekend against Manchester City, but he was at fault for Vokes’s goal.
Scott Arfield’s wan shot was going wide until Stekelenburg palmed it into the path of Vokes, who tapped into an empty net.
Everton equalised after a misjudgement from Ben Mee allowed Yannick Bolasie to beat Tom Heaton at the far post.
Burnley sat back to protect a point and Everton tried to press and open up their opponents, but Arfield pounced to hook a volley past Stekelenburg.
Everton are now without a win in their last five games, and Burnley have three points after two consecutive defeats.

TALKING POINT

Burnley continue to take risks with their approach. Against Liverpool it was enough, where despite having little of the ball they made the most of direct, quick attacking, and their deep defending was enough to resist the attacking quality they faced. It was the same against Everton. How important these six points will be at the end of the season is unclear. They are more likely to suffer defeats if they try the same approach throughout the season.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Tom Heaton (Burnley): Heaton kept his side in the match with two early, important saves when under pressure from Everton possession, and also late in the match when he tipped over an effort from Yannick Bolasie. His performance - when contrasted with Maarten Stekelenburg’s error - shows the importance of a reliable ‘keeper for any side.

KEY MOMENTS

2’ - HEATON SAVE - Terrible defending from Burnley sees the ball run to Mirallas at the box, but his shot is too close to Heaton, who beats it away.
15’ - LUKAKU CHANCE - Heaton beats away Lukaku's shot, and with Marallas closing in, Ward slides in to block the shot.
39’ - GOAL! Burnley 1-0 Everton. Vokes scores - Arfield receives the ball outside the box on the half-turn. He shoots weakly at goal, it's going wide, and Stekelenburg stops it from going out of play at the same time as knocking it into the path of Vokes, who can tap in easily.
47’ - HEATON SAVE - Lowton heads a cross from Bolasie behind at the back post. Barkley receives the corner from Mirallas, but his low shot to the near post is stopped by Heaton's dive.
58’ - GOAL! Burnley 1-1 Everton. Bolasie scores - Mee steps up and misses a ball towards goal from Barry. It's a terrible mistake, because Lukaku and Bolasie are ready to take advantage. Bolasie takes it off Lukaku after a single touch, and he slams a shot across Heaton.
90’ - GOAL! Burnley 2-1 Everton. Arfield scores - A last-minute winner for Burnley, surely. Heaton hits a long ball forward and Gudmundsson curls a shot against the bar. It comes out to Arfield, who hooks a volley into the ground and past Stekelenburg.
