Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier says he was surprised team-mate Harry Kane did not feature on the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist.

Kane finished last season as the Premier League’s top scorer with 25 goals, ahead of Jamie Vardy and Sergio Aguero.
However, both Vardy and Aguero feature on the list, revealed by France Football, alongside Riyad Mahrez, who was crowned PFA Player of the Year in May.
Kevin De Bruyne, Dimitri Payet and Hugo Lloris also make the cut having plied their trade in England last season, but Dier does not believe Kane will be bothered by the snub.
"Leicester won the Premier League but that doesn't mean to say Harry should miss out. He had a fantastic season," Dier told the London Evening Standard.
"To be top scorer in the league after the slow start he had was a brilliant achievement. He could have been on that list, though I am sure he is not too bothered about it.
"We have many players who can be on it in the future, though, if they want to. It is a matter of working hard and trying to improve."

OUR VIEW

It isn’t a surprise. Although Vardy’s presence means Kane should make the list ahead/instead of him, the Leicester striker should not really be there.
Can anyone truly justify Vardy's place in the top 30? His 24 goals may have helped Leicester to a league title, but the absence of N’Golo Kante makes you question whether Vardy’s inclusion was merely a publicity stunt.
With regards to Kane, he has impressed for the past two seasons, but when you look at the other strikers who make the cut, they’re easily a class above, and Kane still has some way to go in terms of all-round contribution.
Six assists in the league since he burst onto the scene in 2014 tells you all you need to know.
