Football Association launch betting probe into John Terry substitution

The English Football Association has asked betting companies to provide information on wagers placed on John Terry's stage-managed substitution during Chelsea's 5-1 win over Sunderland last weekend.

Terry, who will leave champions Chelsea at the end of the season, was given a guard of honour as he left the pitch in the 26th minute of his final Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.
He later confirmed that the send-off in the minute that matched his shirt number was orchestrated following talks with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
The governing body confirmed on Tuesday it had contacted bookmakers in relation to the incident.
Paddy Power accepted request-a-bet wagers on the Chelsea captain being substituted between the times of 26:00 and 26:59, giving odds of 100-1.
Sunderland manager David Moyes revealed that his club were aware of, and had agreed to, the plan, which Terry took responsibility for.
The defender, who has made 717 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club, admitted he wanted to leave the pitch during the 26th minute to correspond with his shirt number of 26.
According to PA Sport, who spoke to two of the three winners, Paddy Power paid out £2,500 and £1,000 respectively.
Paddy Power said it had “replied to a novelty request for odds on John Terry’s substitution,” from the three customers.
Terry actually left the field during the 28th minute of the final match of the Premier League season, but the bookmaker paid out because they said the substitution was “clearly planned for the 26th minute".
