Manchester City let a two-goal advantage slip as Tottenham claimed an improbable point in an engrossing draw at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola named a very bold starting line-up, including dropping John Stones, and his gamble appeared to have paid off as the hosts were rampant in the first half yet it was somehow goalless at the break.

When the goals eventually did come it was because of shocking goalkeeping. First Hugo Lloris failed in his execution of a clearing header, meaning Leroy Sane could the ball roll into an empty net, and four minutes later he spilled a routine cross allowing Kevin De Bruyne to tap in from close range.
Spurs fought back and got one back through Dele Alli, but City continued to dominate and should have put the game to bed long before the game's big moment of controversy when referee Andre Marriner didn’t award a penalty despite Kyle Walker clearly pushing Raheem Sterling as he beared down on goal.
Within a minute Tottenham had gone up the other end and equalised through substitute Hueng-Min Son, who lashed past Claudio Bravo.
The result means the table stays as it was is good news for Chelsea, with Tottenham second on 46 points and Man City fifth with 43.

TALKING POINT

How was that not a penalty? There’s no two ways about it, City should have been awarded a penalty and Walker should have been sent off. Instead Spurs were able to go up the other end and equalise. Guardiola has every right to be upset, although he’ll know deep down that his side should have secured the win by that stage.

MAN OF THE MATCH

David Silva (Manchester City). He was central in City’s domination, floating between Tottenham’s defence and midfield and rarely misplacing a pass. Had his forwards been more clinical he could've had multiple assists, and also produced a great stop from Lloris in the first half.

KEY MOMENTS

11’ – CHANCE! Silva, Aguero, and De Bruyne combine to tee up Zabaleta but, under pressure around 12 yards from goal, he stumbles and pokes the ball wide.
20’ – SAVE! Silva lets fly from 25 yards and Lloris has to be at full stretch to tip it wide.
49’ – GOAL! Man City 1-0 Tottenham (Sane). City finally score! De Bruyne plays a long ball over the top looking for Sane. Lloris reads it and is off his line in a flash but then doesn't get a clean connection on his clearing header which bounces off Sane and into the box for the City man to tap home.
53’ – GOAL! Man City 2-0 Tottenham (De Bruyne). Lloris is having a shocker! Sterling's cross is nowhere near a City man and the goalkeeper should be able to claim with ease but lloris spills it and De Bruyne's on hand to tap in.
58’ – GOAL! Man City 2-1 Tottenham (Alli). The ball breaks for Walker on the right and his first-time cross is perfect for Alli to head home at the back post. Game on!
76’ – PENALTY APPEAL! Sterling is put through on goal and just as he shoots he's shoved in the back by Walker but it's not given. The shot was weak as a result and easily saved.
77’ – GOAL! Man City 2-2 Tottenham (Son). Spurs go straight up the other end and equalise through Son, who lashes past Bravo after a lovely lay off from Kane.
83’ – DISALLOWED GOAL! Jesus is almost the saviour as he turns in a cross-cum-shot at the back post but it’s ruled out for offside.
