Mourinho reveals Rooney struggling with pressure

Jose Mourinho has claimed Rooney is struggling with the pressure of poor form, according to the Daily Mail. The United manager warned Rooney that he will not be picked on reputation but merit, as his poor run of Premier League and international form continues. Mourinho also believes that criticism from outside the club is excessive, and his form for England in the summer hasn't helped his mindset.
Paper Round's view: Mourinho is caught between a rock and a hard place making a decision on Wayne Rooney. The tough call of dropping him will cause conflict, something that he's likely been warned by his new bosses to avoid. There is a line of thinking that Mourinho will just keep playing him despite on-field results, just to justify dropping him and to absolve him of delivering a tough message.

Loris Karius set for Liverpool start against Hull

Loris Karius will start for Liverpool on the weekend, according to the Daily Mail. The report says that Karius will start in goal for Liverpool before Simon Mignolet, after the German came back from a broken hand injury to play against Derby in the EFL Cup mid-week. Karius arrived at Liverpool from Mainz in June for £5 million.

Paper Round's view: Decision that Klopp had to make, even if it is a tough one. Karius might not be the finished product yet, but Mignolet's errors over the last 18 months have been mostly unforgivable for a player at that level. If Karius is more confident at corners and set pieces, the Reds have found the person to solve their keeping woes.

Cesc Fabregas likely to start against Arsenal

Antonio Conte should allow midfielder Cesc Fabregas to start against Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail. Conte hinted that he was ready to give the Spanish international his first start of the season, after mounting speculation he was a chance to leave the club. Two goals mid-week against Leicester in the EFL Cup are likely to have moved Fabregas up the pecking order.

Paper Round's view: N'Golo Kante's arrival at Stamford Bridge was always going to complicate things, but it should give Conte not only competition for spots but also the ability for variation. Double-pivot of Nemanja Matic and Kante for games where the tempo needs to be slowed and when playing all-out attack, Fabregas and Kante can start.

Ryan Giggs open to Swansea job

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is open to taking the Swansea job, according to the Sun. The Welsh club's American owners are considering a change from current manager Francesco Guidolin, as a poor run of form since taking over from Garry Monk has the club in a slump. There is still a level of unease around making the decision, and the club's owners don't want to make a decision too hastily.

Paper Round's view: What the Swansea board need to do is put the situation on lockdown for a bit, refusing to comment and stop the leaking to the press. This speculation damages team morale and the club can't afford to lose too many points in the meantime as they'll likely end up in a relegation battle this year. There's nothing worse than handing the keys to the still unproven Ryan Giggs, while their on-field results are in freefall.
