Tottenham Hotspur passed on the opportunity to go top of the table after they were held to a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth.
Chances were at a premium in an hard-fought first-half but Tottenham could – and probably should – have gone to the interval a man down after Erik Lamela escaped a second yellow for a robust challenge on Dan Gosling.
They were also fortunate not to lose substitute Moussa Sissoko, who elbowed Harry Arter off the ball, triggering some pushing and shoving between both teams.
Tottenham, knowing a win would take them top, grew into the game in the second half and had the better of it but were unable to carve out any clear-cut chances.
The hosts offered a threat on the break and could have won it late on but Benik Afobe’s header whistled over the bar.
The draw sees Tottenham draw level with Arsenal and Manchester City on 19 points but they stay in third on goal difference.

TALKING POINT

Jack Wilshere - iron man. This was the first match in two years that Wilshere had made it through, start to finish. He really does seem to have received a new lease of life down on the coast, for all the mockery of his decision to make the move for the season.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Artur Boruc (Bournemouth). He was the busier of the two keepers, but always solid, with confidence in his back line. Impressive.

PLAYER RATINGS

Bournemouth: Boruc 8, Smith 7, Francis 7, Cook 7, Daniels 7, Ibe 7, Arter 8, Gosling 7, Wilshere 7, King 7, Wilson 7. Subs: Federici, Mings, Ake, Mousset, Fraser 6, Gradel 7, Afobe 6.

KEY MOMENTS

5' CLOSE! Short corner, and amidst the shadows in the box, it's a good save from Lloris to stop Daniels's shot. Another corner.
17' OOF! That was really strange! Lamela goes on his own run, he's about 35 yards out, lets rip with a shot, the keeper doesn't move, looking as if he thinks it's well wide, and it JUST clips the outside of the post.
40' OUCH! Lamela goes in with his foot up for a diving challenge on Gosling. Wonder if he remembers he already been booked. Possibly fortunate not to pick up another there.
79' FIGHT! Right, a bit of a "flare-up" as Arter and Sissoko have a set-to - it looks like Sissoko put his elbow into Arter's face on the touchline, and then everybody thinks they ought to weigh in by pushing and shoving each other.
89' CHANCE! Another Lamela shot is cleared, and Bournemouth break quickly - Wilshere is shouting for the ball in the middle from Gradel but Tottenham are closing in and Dembele gets that out for a corner....and Afobe heads that over the bar from Francis's cross in.
