Tony Pulis sacked by West Bromwich Albion, Gary Megson placed in interim charge

West Bromwich Albion confirmed on Monday that they have terminated the contract of manager Tony Pulis with immediate effect.

Pulis moved to West Brom in 2015 after a spell at Crystal Palace, steering the struggling Baggies to survival in his first season.
And under Pulis the club established themselves in the mid-table of the top-flight in the following two campaigns, with 14th- and 10th-place finishes in 2015/16 and 2016/17 respectively.

But in both seasons the team's form fell away dramatically once survival had been secured, while Pulis' tactical style was not universally popular with the club's fanbase.
A poor start to this season has seen the Baggies score just nine goals in 12 matches, winning just twice in that run and not recording a victory in the last 10 games.
And the club acted on Monday, removing Pulis from his position.
In a statement released by the club, chairman John Williams said:
These decisions are never taken lightly but always in the interests of the club. We are in a results business and over the back end of last season and this season to date, ours have been very disappointing. We would like to place on record our appreciation of Tony's contribution and hard work during a period of transition for the club which included a change of ownership. We wish him well in his future endeavours.
Assistant coach Gary Megson will take charge until further notice.
