Liverpool have joined the race to sign Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuijt. The player - who has been strongly linked to Newcastle United - himself revealed the Anfield side had made an approach for him.

"The Feyenoord president has informed me of a new approach from last year's European champions," said Kuijt, who was also linked to Liverpool last season. "I am happy at Feyenoord but would like to play in the Premier League."
Feyenoord have proved reluctant to allow Kuijt - under contract with the Eredivisie side until 2009 - leave, with Everton having a 14m euro bid rejected last season.
And the 25-year-old forward - part of Marco van Basten's Dutch World Cup squad - is not getting his hopes up this time round.
"Last year it was close to happening so for now I prefer to concentrate only on the World Cup because my hopes could be soured again," he said. "It is out of my hands. I have several opportunities but it is now down to Feyenoord."
WIGAN CLOSE ON JOHNSON
Wigan are reportedly close to completing a 12m euro swoop for Crystal Palace striker Andrew Johnson.
Palace are thought to have accepted the bid, leaving the final decision whether to move north or not to Johnson.
"One club's close to matching our valuation. But whether Andrew Johnson decides to join that club is another matter," said Palace chairman Simon Jordan.
Johnson - who scored 21 goals in Palace's Premiership relegation season of 1994/95 - is thought to prefer a move to Everton.
AJAX WANT DAVIDS BACK
Newly-installed Ajax boss Henk ten Cate is plotting to lure Spurs midfielder Edgar Davids back to the club where he started his career.
Davids emerged from the Amsterdam giant's renowned youth system to play for Milan, Juventus, Inter and Barcelona in a trophy-littered career, which Ten Cate wants him to bring to a close where it began.
"I have spoken to Edgar about rejoining us and he thinks it is a terrific idea," said Ten Cate. "We have a lot of young players and he can show them what is needed to reach the top and stay there. He could play a crucial role for us."
Should Davids move, Spurs would step up their interest in St Etienne and Ivory Coast grafter Didier Zokora.
"There is interest from a number of clubs in Didier and Tottenham are one of them," admitted the player's agent Franck Belhassen.
"At the moment he is away with the Ivory Coast preparing for the World Cup and we will wait until after that before deciding his future."
