Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has criticised Everton manager David Moyes, labelling him ‘overbearing’ and claiming he was keen to move away, so that he would no longer have to play under the Scot.
Rooney came up through the youth academy at Everton, bursting onto the scene with a long range strike against Arsenal to become the Premiership's youngest ever goalscorer.
In his autobiography, he revealed his relationship with Moyes soured as his manager made him train on his own, blaming him for eating too much fast-food and accusing Rooney of breaking the CD player in his car.
The pair again fell out as the young striker suspected Moyes of leaking his desire for a transfer to local papers. A training ground row ensued, in which Rooney said to Moyes "How did that story get out, except for you...I never want to play for you again."
Following a series of impressive performances for England at Euro 2004, Rooney made a £30m move to Old Trafford, though he revealed that Newcastle were the first club to make an offer for him, and admitted: "If no-one else had come in I would have gone to Newcastle."
"I suppose being young and confident and playing for England at 17, I wasn't bothered about upsetting him or answering back" he added.
