Sydney in for Fowler

Sydney FC have revealed their interest in out-of-favour Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler. The ambitious Australian side have already had Dwight Yorke on their books, and confirmed they are after another Premiership icon.

"He's been discussed at boardroom level and it shows just how determined we are to set benchmarks in Australian football that we are serious about targeting a player of his calibre," said Sydney chief executive George Perry.

The 32-year-old has been little more than a fringe player in his second stint at Anfield. He has started just 12 Premiership games since returning to his boyhood club in January 2006, weighing in with eight goals.

"He's out of the top drawer and although an official approach has not yet been made, it goes without saying that if he did come to Australia it would be a huge signing for us," said Perry.
