Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t believe Real Madrid need Robert Lewandowski and says Bayern Munich won’t sell regardless.
Poland striker Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, but Ancelotti argues that his former club don’t need the striker… and even if they did, Bayern wouldn’t let him leave.
“They have many great players, like [Karim] Benzema, [Gareth] Bale and Cristiano [Ronaldo]. Really they don’t need Lewandowski,” the veteran Italian manager said.
“And even if he was needed, Bayern wouldn’t sell. Why should we voluntarily let go of one of the best attackers in the world?”
“The only truth in these rumours is that [Alvaro] Morata, my discovery at Madrid, is a very good player – but I wouldn’t swap Lewandowski for any player in the world.”
Lewandowski joined Bayern from rivals Borussia Dortmund in 2013 and has scored 47 goals in 63 appearances for Munich since.
Real Madrid used a €30 million buy-back clause to sign Morata from Juventus this summer, although the future of the Spain international remains unclear, with Arsenal and Chelsea also reportedly interested.
