Romelu Lukaku 'perfect' for Jose Mourinho's Manchester United, claims Wayne Rooney

The big Belgian has been an instant hit at Old Trafford, scoring three goals in his opening three Premier League games.

Some questioned Mourinho when he forked out £75m to bring Lukaku to Manchester from Everton but former Red Devils captain Rooney, who went in the other direction over the summer, has no doubt he will achieve great things.

"For that United side, he is the perfect player," Rooney told talkSPORT.

"He is powerful, quick and strong and he scores goals, so certainly will improve that team."

Rooney, who is United's leading all-time goal scorer with 253 goals, had limited playing time under Mourinho but claims the Portuguese is the right man for the job.

"Jose came in and last season in the league we struggled and weren't consistent enough.

"Obviously in the cups United did well. I could see where Jose was going with the team and they will be a big success."
