Royals extend Gunter deal

Reading have taken up the option to extend defender Chris Gunter's contract by another year.

The 25-year-old, currently with Wales ahead of their qualifer with Israel, was due to be out of contract at the end of this season but the former Cardiff right-back will now stay with the Royals for another campaign after making 36 appearances this term.

"Chris is an important member of the first-team squad and, once I knew there was an option to extend Chris' contract, I asked the club to take it up immediately," boss Steve Clarke told the club's official website.

"Consistency of performance is what every manager wants from his players and Chris delivers consistently good performances."
