Saints' push for a return to Europe gathered further momentum thanks to Saturday's 2-0 win away to Dundee which came as a result of second-half goals from Danny Swanson and David Wotherspoon, while the off-form hosts had top scorer Greg Stewart sent-off for diving just after the hour mark to add to their troubles.
Wright's hopefuls moved seven points ahead of Saturday's opponents as a result which has put them within touching distance of third-placed Inverness.
However, their boss is refusing to get too carried away with what they might achieve between now and the end of the season.
Wright said: "Looking at it, it's a great result. We were really happy to get back into the top-six because things never get any easier.
"Catching Inverness would be brilliant and we'll see what happens but we can only really take it one game at a time.
"That's always been our approach and we've got Inverness next up at McDiarmid Park.
"The lads can take confidence from this one as it was one which we deserved to get the three points from.
"They were two really well-worked goals and together we just worked so hard to get the win."
Meanwhile, Dundee manager Paul Hartley has told his player to put their worst display of the season behind them as they look ahead to Friday night's trip to face Celtic.
Hartley said: "We'll need to move on. It's hard to explain it. It just wasn't us and the players know that.
"We'll prepare properly for our next game when we'll look to do much better.
"Fortunately, we haven't had too many off-days like this one throughout the season.
"But the great thing about football is that there's always another game round the corner to focus on."
