Contract talks between Milan and goalkeeper Nelson Dida have stalled over the Brazilian's asking price.
Rossoneri vice president Adriano Galliani confirmed that negotiations are locked in a stalemate with Dida still asking for more than Milan are willing to give.
"I met with Nelson," Galliani said. "We spoke with affection and he lowered his demands a little. But there is still a big difference between his requests and our offer.
"Milan have a strict salary policy that can't be changed. Dida is a top level player, and he deserves to earn as much as the others, but not more.
"Let's hope we can reach agreement soon."
Dida's current deal with Milan expires in June.
Highly rated Livorno keeper Marco Amelia has been linked to move to the Diavola, and is seen as a possible replacement for Dida, should a deal to keep the Brazil international at the San Siro not be reached.
