Alessandro Del Piero turns 40 today and the ex-Juventus legend celebrates with the Delhi Dynamos.
This new stage of his career has begun with the Indian Super League and Alex wrote a message on his personal website, titled 40 years in 40 words.
“A number? A frontier? A Lifetime has passed by, another awaits: I am ready.
“To be, to grow, to become. Son to father, footballer to man. The best I can be.
“Thanks everybody for never allowing me to feel lonely.
“Ale.”
Del Piero also spoke to Sky Sport Italia about his career and love affair with Juventus.
“As a little boy I wanted to prove that even the smallest can become the greatest. It’s a thought I still have with me.
“I remember everything about Juventus with a smile. Not doing so would be disrespectful to me and the people who participated in all of this. There are few stories like mine and I think they should be highlighted. I am very proud of it.”
Yet Pinturicchio also revealed he almost left the Turin giants when he was still a very young player.
“I was meant to go to Parma on loan. There was already talk of figures, then it all collapsed for reasons I was too young to understand.
“Did I risk leaving Juve after that? Let’s say that 2006 was a decisive year in many ways, after some other seasons that were not easy.”
Del Piero opted to remain with Juventus even after their demotion to Serie B in the Calciopoli scandal.
