Bayern Munich have denied reports that they made a 10 million euro bid for Juventus playmaker Andrea Pirlo.
Veteran Italy midfielder Pirlo, 33, was instrumental to Juve’s unbeaten season that saw them crowned Serie A champions, and also impressed with the Azzurri in their run to the final of Euro 2012.
But he will not be joining Bayern, who are keen to provide a stronger challenge to double champions Borussia Dortmund next season.
“Bayern have neither made an offer to Juventus nor have we made contact with the player or his advisers,” the German club’s chairman Karl-Heinze Rummenigge said in a press release.
Contracted to the Turin club until 2014, former Milan player Pirlo scored three goals in 73 Serie A appearances last season.
He was also the man-of-the-match in Italy's Euro 2012 quarter-final draw against England, netting a cheeky 'Panenka' penalty as the Azzurri went through after a shoot-out.
