Napoli lose Insigne for season

Lorenzo Insigne’s season appears to be over, as he is set for surgery on a knee injury far worse than Napoli expected.
The Vesuviani reported after yesterday’s win against Fiorentina that the diminutive playmaker had sustained ‘probable ligament damage’, whilst Il Mattino suggested a worst case scenario of two months on the sidelines.
However, the club have confirmed in a statement released today that diagnostic tests have shown a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in the player’s right knee.
The attacker will undergo surgery in the coming days, with the operation being handled by Professor Pier Paolo Mariani of Villa Stuart.
Napoli have not given an estimated return date for the 23-year-old, but a cruciate ligament injury can usually be expected to sideline a player for at least six months.
