The Nerazzurri were beaten 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico by a Miroslav Klose chip and Antonio Candreva penalty, meaning they are mathematically ruled out of the running for a Champions League spot.
“In the first 20 minutes especially we were awful and deserved to lose,” the angry Coach told Mediaset Premium and Sky Sport Italia.
“We had chances to equalise in the second half and, as usual, got them wrong. We lack quality and concentration. We had enormous difficulty in scoring a goal. This team lacks quality. If you watched today’s game, there were many areas of the team that need fixing…
“There were slender hopes for third place, which was to win here and hope Roma slipped up. At least we wanted to secure fourth. Instead, our performance was in parts pitiful. The attitude was totally wrong. We were sluggish, it looked like a pre-season friendly. Many of the players have to realise Inter is Inter.
“I repeat, the season is good. We hoped for third place and considering the way the season began, we had the chance to achieve it. In a way, that strong start made some people think we could win the League, whereas we’ve got serious frailties.
“Unfortunately in these games we lack quality, we make the wrong passes and are technically poor. We keep misplacing some really easy passes. We have to work on the basics. It is a young team and they may well have needed this time to get settled, but from next year we have to wipe out these errors.”
Jeison Murillo brought down Keita Balde Diao for a penalty, his second bookable offence.
“Murillo was a dummy. He should’ve stopped, as it was obvious Keita was going to cut back on his right foot. He was naïve, this was his 35th Serie A game, so I hope it will help him to learn for next season.”
