Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero says he’d like to bring Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli to the club.
The Italian international has struggled since moving to Anfield this summer, scoring just one Premier League goal.
“I’d take Balotelli,” Ferrero explained to Gazzetta TV.
“Here, without the pressure of a big club, maybe he’d return to being a top player. If a striker plays in a calmer environment, goals come more easily and if things go wrong people get less angry.
“Balotelli isn’t hungry at the moment, he earns too much.”
The filmmaker also dismissed any possibility of a return for Antonio Cassano, who is a free agent after leaving Parma.
“Cassano? He’s missed the boat.”
OUR VIEW
Massimo Ferrero may want to sign Balotelli but that does not necessarily mean that he will. A move to Sampdoria, where Balotelli would undoubtedly be under less scrutiny, may very well suit the Italian but with as with much of modern football this will simply come down to money. Can Samp afford his wages? And if not, would Liverpool be willing to subsidise them?
