Reports had previously linked the striker to offers of around €60m from Napoli, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea this summer, while Juventus were also interested.
According to multiple sources, including Sky Sport Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport, a decision has been made to extend his contract to June 2021 with Icardi thought to be set to earn in the region of €5m per year.
However, it is thought that the new clause would include a release clause of between €80m and €100m.
Now Sky Sport Italia and others suggest the final figure will be €100m – as much as the previous world transfer, made when Real Madrid bought Gareth Bales from Tottenham in 2013.
Icardi scored 16 goals for Inter in 33 Serie A appearances last season.
