Juventus are reportedly happy to take Axel Witsel as a free agent next year, which may push Zenit St Petersburg into discounting him now.
The Belgian is second only to Paul Pogba for the amount of transfer speculation that he generated this summer, and the rumours still aren't over.
With the player's preference firmly set for the Old Lady, and the latter's offer not going anywhere above €15m (£12.8m), it appears that a standstill has been reached.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, Juventus have now decided that they are happy to wait until the player's contract expires next year, so they can sign him as a free agent.
While Zenit have other offers for the player, including a €30m bid by Everton, Witsel's obstinacy could force them to accept the original Italian offer of €15m now, as an alternative to losing him for free next year.
And with Juve selling star man Pogba to Manchester United for a reported £89m, the Italian champions could turn their attention to other players if the move falls through this transfer window.
Massimiliano Allegri's side have already strengthened their midfield this summer with the purchase of Miralem Pjanic from Roma.
