A number of deals were completed as the Scottish summer transfer window drew to a close on Tuesday at midnight.
Here, Press Association Sport picks out some of the most notable deadline-day deals.
Virgil van Dijk (Celtic to Southampton, £11.5million, rising to a potential £13million)
Age: 24
Position: Defender
Career highlights: Scottish Premiership titles 2014 & 2015, Scottish League Cup 2015
Previous transfers: 2010 - Willem II to Groningen, free; 2013 - Groningen to Celtic, £2.6million
After many months of speculation, Van Dijk finally got his move to the Barclays Premier League. Southampton have single-handedly vindicated Celtic's transfer policy of signing players with potential, having shelled out almost £35million on Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster.
Robbie Muirhead (Dundee United to Partick Thistle, loan)
Age: 19
Position: Forward
Career highlights: Shortlist for UEFA goal of the year
Previous transfers: 2015 - Kilmarnock to Dundee United, £150,000
Muirhead had only scored four goals for Killie when Jackie McNamara identified him as a player with the potential to fill the void left by the departure of Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven in January. The teenager has since scored twice and has not started a game this season despite competing with similarly young team-mates. United will hope a move to Thistle boosts his confidence.
Ryan Christie (Inverness to Celtic, £500,000-plus)
Age: 20
Career highlights: Scottish Cup 2015, Scottish Football Writers' young player of the year 2015.
Christie shone in Caley Thistle's Scottish Cup semi-final win over Celtic and has the creativity and confidence to move to the next level at Parkhead if given game time. Will continue at Caley Thistle on loan until January at the earliest.
Islam Feruz (Chelsea to Hibernian, loan)
Age: 19
Career highlights: FA Youth Cup 2012
Previous transfers: 2011 - Celtic to Chelsea, development fee.
Scottish football fans will finally get a chance to view the potential of pacey striker Feruz following an eventful early career. The teenager's attitude has been called into question after he declined to play for Scotland Under-19s and spoke of playing in the African Nations Cup, and following unproductive loan spells in Crete and Blackpool. Hibs fans will hope Feruz knuckles down and lives up to the hype.
Jozo Simunovic (Dinamo Zagreb to Celtic)
Age: 21
Career highlights: Under-20 World Cup finals 2013, Croatian title 2015.
Simunovic has big boots to fill following Van Dijk's exit and Celtic need him to adapt quickly alongside the as-yet unconvincing Dedryck Boyata if they are to make their mark in the Europa League and ward off domestic challenges from Aberdeen and Hearts.
