The Shakers led 2-0 with 28 minutes to go after two goals in five minutes through Andrew Tutte and Daniel Nardiello.
However, Jake Hyde pulled one back just four minutes later before Luke Summerfield secured a point with a 78th-minute free-kick.
"It was a magnificent performance from our lads today," said Wilcox.
"There's a tinge of disappointment in there but there shouldn't be when we were 2-0 down against a team which I believe will be a top-seven team.
"We created enough opportunities to win but look at the spirit, the togetherness and the quality we showed at 2-0 down because everyone in the stadium thought it was game over - but we didn't. We kept chipping away and we got our rewards in the end.
"I was delighted with the football we played. That comes down to being positive and brave.
"To come in at 0-0 was disappointing because we had a massive chance just before half-time.
"We know we're still in trouble and when you look at the table it's a great point to get when you're 2-0 down.
"I'm sure that if we keep showing the quality we showed today, on the back of the attitude, application and work ethic, then we'll be fine."
Bury have now gone eight games without a win and boss David Flitcroft admits York's first goal had a huge effect on his team.
"We were menacing up until they scored," said Flitcroft.
"We put some dangerous balls into the box and we got our just rewards with the two goals.
"First half I was quite pleased with how the game was panning out but second half there was a real verve and energy to what we did.
"But we've got to see the game out at 2-0 up. You've got to get through the next 10 minutes (without conceding).
"But their goal gave them real hope. It became uncomfortable and it didn't need to be.
"I was disappointed with the way their two goals were condeded. It's become a trend and we've got to stop it.
"At 2-0 up, we've won the game and it's a comfy afternoon, and that's what we should have had today. But we'll come good. We work too hard not to."
