Kvyat's car fails scrutineering checks

Kvyat qualified ninth for Sunday's race, and was poised to start from eighth on the grid with Kimi Raikkonen dropping five places after his Ferrari required a new gearbox following final practice.

However, following customary checks on Kvyat's car it has been discovered it does not comply the regulations regarding front-floor detection.

A report from FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer read: "The vertical deflection under a vertical load of 4000 Newton exceeded 5mm.

"As this is not in compliance with Article 3.17.5 [of the FIA technical regulations] I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration."

A member of the Toro Rosso team has been summoned to offer an explanation, with the possibility Kvyat may have his qualifying time deleted if a suitable answer is not provided with regard to the failure.

One possible theory provided by Kvyat, prior to the investigation being announced, is that he drove hard over a kerb during qualifying, damaging the car.

"I was on for a very good lap, on for P5, but I hit the kerb pretty hard around Turn 14, the swimming pool, and I think something broke," said Kvyat.

"The last three corners I was a passenger, so I lost a lot of time there.

"I need to speak to the engineers to get the conclusion on what happened. That's only my theory.

"I had potential, but by the time I got to Q3 I lost concentration and pace. People kept improving and we took a step back."
