Marciello thinking of Bianchi in test

GP2 racer Marciello acknowledged that had Bianchi not suffered severe head injuries in his Japanese Grand Prix accident, the Frenchman would probably have been the one testing for Ferrari this winter.

"It was impossible not to think about Jules: he and I joined the Ferrari Driver Academy at the same time and if I am here today, it's in part because he is not," Marciello said after completing 91 laps for Ferrari in his maiden F1 test on Wednesday.

"Jules taught me to always push myself to the limit and here today, I tried to do that for him."

Although Marciello has attended several grands prix as part of his FDA role, Ferrari has not announced a reserve driver since Bianchi was injured.

Marciello was second quickest in the test behind Mercedes test driver Pascal Wehrlein.

"It was quite a fun day, I enjoyed driving a Formula 1 car a lot," said Marciello.

"I did a lot of kilometres, so I'm really happy with this, because when you are in the car you want to do a lot. I did everything - like quali and long runs - so I'm really happy.

"It was really emotional in the morning, for an Italian to drive for Ferrari is a dream. So I'm really happy."

Asked how hard he had pushed, the 19-year-old replied: "I had a bit of margin, of course. It was my first time in a Formula 1 car, so I had like four-five tenths of margin, but I think the speed was quite good."
