Video: FE battery technology's next step

Last month Formula E's new battery went through its first full race simulation ahead of its introduction next year.

The test of the McLaren Applied Technologies product was a significant moment in the electric single-seater series' technical progression, as it targets ditching the mid-race car swaps for the 2018/19 season.
McLaren's battery will almost double the amount of usable energy currently available from the Williams Advanced Engineering-built unit to 54Kw/h, so drivers can complete an entire race distance in one car.
The current battery, and what gains are coming in the future, are profiled here in the first of a new series of videos focusing on the key technology behind Formula E.
