Clarke picks Pieters, Westwood and Kaymer as three Ryder Cup wildcards

The Northern Irishman was always likely to pick Briton Westwood and German Kaymer following their heroics in previous Ryder Cups, however Luke Donald was strongly fancied to get the final berth in the team.

Pieters however won the Made in Denmark event over the weekend to tip the balance.

"In Lee Westwood I have one of most experienced Ryder Cuppers of all time - it's his 10th appearance," Clarke said.

"Martin Kaymer is somewhat of a Ryder Cup stalwart and another man I have enormous trust in.

"Last week I played with Thomas Pieters and Thomas knew why I was playing with him and played unbelievable and shot 62 and, on top of that, won the tournament."

The Ryder Cup will take place on September 30 - October 2 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in America.
