Love picks Rickie Fowler, JB Holmes and Matt Kuchar as three wildcards for USA Ryder Cup team

Fowler, 27, a triple winner on the PGA Tour, was a member of the 2010 and 2014 teams. Holmes, 34, known for his prodigious length off the tee, has made just one previous appearance for his country in the Ryder Cup, in 2008 when the U.S. last tasted victory over Europe.

Kuchar, 38, who is renowned for his consistency from tee to green and an uncanny ability to grind out top-10 finishes, has featured in the last three Ryder Cups.

Love will pick his fourth player following that event on the September 25. Bubba Watson, the world No 7, is the most notable absentee from the team so far.

It comes after Darren Clarke named Thomas Pieters, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer as his wildcards.

The Northern Irishman was always likely to pick Briton Westwood and German Kaymer following their heroics in previous Ryder Cups, however Luke Donald was strongly fancied to get the final berth in the team. Pieters however won the Made in Denmark event over the weekend to tip the balance.

The Ryder Cup will take place on September 30 - October 2 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in America. The U.S. will bid to end a dominant run by the Europeans, who have won three consecutive Ryder Cups and eight of the last 10.

USA Team (one wildcard to be picked): Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Phil Mickelson, Jimmy Walker, Brooks Koepka, Brandt Snedeker, Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler, J.B. Holmes, Matt Kuchar.
