Prosecutors have asked that an investigation into a match-fixing scandal involving French handballer Nikola Karabatic and 16 others proceeds to trial in Montpellier, a judicial source told Reuters on Friday.
Prosecutors suspect the Montpellier players to have deliberately lost a match against Cesson-Rennes Metropole in May 2012. Seven handballers, including Karabatic and his brother Luka, are among the defendants in the case.
Karabatic, a leading player in the France team who last week won their fifth world title, left Montpellier in January 2013.
Investigating magistrates now have three months to decide whether or not to follow the prosecutors' recommendation.
