The European bronze medalists will face Norway on Monday with the progressing to the second group phase.
Defending champions Spain had Juanín García notch 11 times in a 41-18 romp over Group D minnows Qatar in Bremen.
Michael Guigou scored ten goals for European champions France as they crushed Group B whipping boys Australia 47-10.
South Korea produced a surprise by drawing with Russia in their opening game in Group F but had no answer to Vedran Zrnic who notched eight for Olympic champions Croatia in a 41-23 triumph.

Tunisia, Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary also booked their berths in the main round with their second win in as many days and they will be joined by Ukraine and Russia if Monday's matches go according to the form book.
