Ridden by Olivier Peslier for trainer Sir Michael Stoute, Dartmouth won by a head from Highland Reel to give Her Majesty her first winner at the meeting for three years.
A Stewards Inquiry was held after Dartmouth and Highland Reel came close together but the placings were unaltered, with Almodovar taking third.
A week on after her official 90th birthday, it was a 23rd win for the Queen at the Royal meeting – her last triumph coming when Estimate, also trained by Stoute, won the Gold Cup in 2013. It also provided some joy to temper the disappointment of losing her runner Guy Fawkes, who suffered a fatal injury at Ascot on Thursday.
For Newmarket trainer Stoute, it was a record-equalling 75th Royal Ascot triumph as he equalled the mark set by the late Sir Henry Cecil.
Jockey Ryan Moore sealed a Saturday treble to conclude Royal Ascot as the meeting’s leading jockey for the sixth time in seven years.
After earlier victories on Churchill and Sir Isaac Newton, Moore rode Twilight Son to victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes ending a long wait for a success for trainer Henry Candy – his first Royal Ascot winner since 1979.
Churchill took out the opening race of the day, the Chesham Stakes, coming home half a length ahead from Isomer in second and Cunco in third.
The Moore and Aidan O’Brien partnership were at it again in the following Wolferton Handicap as Sir Isaac Newton edged out Second Wave a similar margin, with Revoluionist taking third.
Trainer Robert Cowell took the Wokingham Handicap with Outback Traveller, ridden by Martin Harley, finishing fastest to get the better of Brando by a head. Outsiders Glen Moss and Absolutely So took third and fourth respectively.
New father Adam Kirby celebrated a third victory of the week when guiding home Commissioned in the concluding Queen Alexandra Stakes.
In a week in which he has landed two Group 1 victories and also become a father he guided Gordon Elliott’s new recruit to glory in the longest Flat race in Britain, ahead of Cayirli in second and Clondaw Warrior in third.
It was a first winner at the meeting for Elliott, who has already won a Grand National and Cheltenham Gold Cup in a highly successful career as a jumps trainer.
