With Frankie Dettori at the helm, the race favourite and Dual Oaks winner comfortably saw off the challenge of Ulysses in second and Idaho in third.
Racing against older horses, the three-year-old added to her Oaks success at Epsom and in Ireland this year, whilst last year’s winner Highland Reel – Idaho’s brother, finished in fourth place.
Trainer John Gosden had previously won the race with three-year-olds – Nathaniel in 2011 and Taghrooda in 2014 – and the trainer hailed the dual Oaks winner as “the best filly he has ever trained” as she stormed home to win by four and a half lengths margin.
Dettori tracked pacemaker Maverick Wave in the early stages before hitting the front along with Jack Hobbs as they entered the straight. However, Enable shrugged off the Sheema Classic winner with ease before pulling away from her rivals with Ulysses and Idaho then edging clear of the others to take the place money.
The jockey, who also partnered her to win both the English and Irish Oaks, lost 7lb in six days to be able to make the weight for Saturday’s contest, said: “She is a superstar. It means a lot to me, I missed the whole of Royal Ascot [with injury] and to come back to the place I love so much, it’s great.
“She’s as good as I’ve ridden, to win the King George by four lengths – she’s the real deal and I love her so much. I’ll have a big dinner tonight, that’s for sure!”
The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes is the highlight of King George Day which takes place every year on the final Saturday in July. There were six other races on the card at Ascot including the Longines Handicap (For Lady Amateur Riders) and the Group 3 Princess Margaret Juddmonte Stakes.
The Longines Handicap was a close run encounter which eventually went to race favourite Georgian Bay.
The Karl Burke –trained horse, ridden by Katie Walsh, came in by the narrow margin of a neck ahead of Bertiewhittle in second and Tommy G in third a further half-length back.
In the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes, Nyaleti took the honours with some ease under Ryan Moore to beat her six rivals comprehensively.
Sent off as race favourite, the Mark Johnston-trained filly took a lead from her stablemate Rebel Assault before asserting in between the last two furlongs, immediately putting distance between herself and her rivals. After picking up in impressive style, she ran all the way to the line to win by a comfortable five lengths from the previously-unbeaten Richard Fahey-trained Dance Diva.
Swiss watchmaker Longines is the ‘Official Timekeeper’ and Official Watch’ of Ascot Racecourse and Royal Ascot, as well as being the Official Partner and Timekeeper to numerous prestigious events around the world such as the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the Dubai World Cup, and the Kentucky Derby.
