Capitals 5, Blue Jackets 0
Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots for his fourth shutout of the season and the Washington Capitals got goals from five different players as they defeated Columbus 5-0 to snap the Blue Jackets' 16-game winning streak.
Columbus failed in its attempt to match the NHL record of 17 straight victories, established in 1993 by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Blue Jackets had not lost since Nov. 26, when they were defeated in a shootout by the Florida Panthers.
Washington took a 1-0 lead just over five minutes in and never looked back, getting a goal and an assist apiece from John Carlson and Nate Schmidt.
Daniel Winnik, Andre Burakovsky and Justin Williams also scored, and Evgeny Kuznetsov had two assists.
Oilers 4, Bruins 3
Patrick Maroon produced his first NHL hat-trick and Edmonton spoiled Boston's tribute to former Bruins player and coach Milt Schmidt, who died Wednesday.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for the Oilers.
David Krejci, Patrice Bergeron and Colin Miller scored for the Bruins.
Predators 6, Lightning 1
Colton Sissons registered his first career hat-trick to lead Nashville over Tampa Bay at Amalie Arena.
Pekka Rinne stopped 27 shots for Nashville. The Predators scored six goals on 18 shots as Ryan Ellis, Mike Fisher and Filip Forsberg also scored.
Tyler Johnson scored on the power-play and Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with just 13 saves for the Lightning.
Hurricanes 4, Blues 2
Jeff Skinner scored a power-play goal with 6:08 left in the third period to break a tie and lead Carolina over St Louis.
Derek Ryan scored twice and Jay McClement once for the Hurricanes.
Joel Edmundson and Vladimir Tarasenko scored for the Blues.
Blackhawks 4, Sabres 3 (OT)
Patrick Kane scored 56 seconds into overtime to lift Chicago over Buffalo.
Kane finished with a goal and two assists as the Blackhawks rallied with two goals in the final three minutes of regulation and overtime.
Artem Anisimov scored twice and Ryan Hartman contributed another goal as Chicago snapped a two-game losing streak.
Jack Eichel, Marcus Foligno and Kyle Okposo scored for the Sabres.
Red Wings 4, Kings 0
Thomas Vanek scored twice and Detroit buried Los Angeles with a three-goal first period at Staples Center.
Andreas Athanasiou had a goal and two assists as the Red Wings bounced back after being blanked by the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
Jared Coreau stopped all 34 shots he faced for the Red Wings, who won for the second time in three games. Anthony Mantha also scored.
Wild 5, Sharks 4
Minnesota struck for three unanswered goals during a 5:12 span of the final period to erase a deficit and hand San Jose its third straight loss.
Mikko Koivu and Eric Staal scored two goals each, and Zach Parise added one for the Wild.
Joel Ward, Patrick Marleau, Joonas Donskoi and Joe Pavelski scored for the Sharks.
