Highlights of Monday's NHL games

Coyotes 4, Flyers 3

Defenseman Alex Goligoski scored with 14.4 seconds remaining in overtime, and Scott Wedgewood made 28 saves to help the Arizona Coyotes avoid the worst start in NHL history with a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday.

The win was the first of the season for the Coyotes (1-10-1), who matched the NHL record with 11 straight losses to open the season.

Jordan Martinook and Christian Dvorak each scored their first goals of the season and Brendan Perlini netted his second for the Coyotes, who won for the first time under first-year coach Rick Tocchet despite blowing a two-goal lead in the final minute of regulation.

The Coyotes held a 3-1 lead with less than a minute remaining in regulation. With Philadelphia goaltender Brian Elliott pulled for an extra attacker, Jordan Weal scored with 52.6 seconds remaining, and Sean Couturier tied it with 14.4 seconds to go.

Blues 4, Kings 2

Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko each scored a goal and assisted on another to lead St. Louis to a win over Los Angeles in an early-season showdown of two of the hottest teams in the NHL.

The Blues extended their unbeaten streak to seven games and improved to 5-0-0 at home, the only team in the league that has not lost a home game this season. They also moved two points ahead of the Kings for the best record in the Western Conference.

St. Louis matched the franchise record for most wins in October, set in 1997. The Kings saw their three-game winning streak snapped.

Lightning 8, Panthers 5

NHL goals leader Nikita Kucherov scored for the 13th time in 13 games, and goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy tied a franchise record for consecutive wins as Tampa Bay defeated Florida.

Tampa Bay, which leads the Eastern Conference with 21 points, snapped a streak in which it lost five straight times at the BB&T Center.

Kucherov, who leads the NHL in goals, also added an assist. Vasilevskiy tied John Grahame's 2005 franchise record with nine straight wins. Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos, who entered the day on top of the NHL with 17 assists, also had a big night: two goals and one assist.

Canadiens 8, Senators 3

Montreal scored four times in the first period, then went on to defeat Ottawa. The win was the second in a row for the Canadiens while the Senators lost their second straight.

Charles Hudon and Artturi Lehkonen led the Canadiens with two goals apiece, while Max Pacioretty, Alex Galchenyuk, Brendan Gallagher and Tomas Plekanec had the others. Tom Pyatt, Ryan Dzingel and Chris DiDomenico scored for the Senators.

Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson gave up six goals on 15 shots before being pulled at the end of two periods. His replacement, Mike Condon, stopped 12 of the 14 shots he faced.

Blue Jackets 4, Bruins 3 (SO)

Columbus blew a three-goal lead but pulled out a shootout win over Boston. Artemi Panarin and Oliver Bjorkstrand scored in the shootout as Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky blanked the Bruins.

The Bruins fought back from a 3-0 deficit with a goal from Patrice Bergeron late in the second period, then goals from Torey Krug and Brad Marchand in the third to send the game to overtime.

Marchand's goal was his team-leading eighth of the season. David Pastrnak contributed three assists for the Bruins.

Islanders 6, Golden Knights 3

John Tavares remained red-hot when he scored twice as New York pulled away for a victory over Vegas.

Tavares' goals opened and closed a flurry of five unanswered goals by the Islanders, who have won five of six. The New York captain has eight goals in his last three games.

New York's Andrew Ladd scored in the first period, and Mathew Barzal, Cal Clutterbuck and Nikolay Kulemin added goals. Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak recorded 31 saves, though he was for goals by William Karlsson, Alex Tuch and Colin Miller.

Stars 2, Canucks 1 (OT)

Alexander Radulov scored at 2:32 of overtime to give Dallas a victory over Vancouver.

Radulov picked up a loose puck and skated into the Canucks' zone, then beat Vancouver goaltender Jacob Markstrom with a shot to the blocker side.

The Stars got a power-play goal from Tyler Seguin in the second period, and the Canucks replied with a power-play goal from Sam Gagner in the third.

Sharks 3, Maple Leafs 2

Tim Heed's power-play goal broke a tie early in the third period, and San Jose spoiled Patrick Marleau's return with a win over Toronto.

Heed scored his second goal of the season with a slap shot from above the right circle. It was San Jose's only conversion on four power plays, and it was a result of Timo Meier drawing a retaliatory cross-check from former Sharks player Dominic Moore.

Forward Joel Ward scored his first goal of the season into an empty net at 17:47 of the third period before Toronto's Nazem Kadri redirected his seventh goal of the season in at 18:50 to draw the visitors back within one goal.
