Panthers 4, Lightning 3

Jaromir Jagr scored his 717th career goal to tie Phil Esposito for fifth place on the NHL's all-time scoring list as Florida held off a late rally to beat visiting Tampa Bay 4-3.

Brad Boyes recorded his 200th career goal while Aleksander Barkov and Aaron Ekblad also tallied for the Panthers, who led 4-1 early in the third period.

Jonathan Huberdeau contributed three assists as Florida moved within two points of idle Boston for the second wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.

Steven Stamkos tallied his 35th goal of the season for the Lightning (38-20-6), who remain five points behind first-place Montreal in the Atlantic Division.

Penguins 5, Blue Jackets 3

The Pittsburgh Penguins powered past the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 on Sunday, using three second-period power-play goals to earn a win.

Left winger Daniel Winnik made his debut for the Penguins, picking up an assist, while Evgeni Malkin added two goals and an assist. Defenseman Kris Letang and Sidney Crosby picked up two helpers each for Pittsburgh (36-17-9).

The win pulled the Penguins to within a point of the idle New York Rangers for second place in the Metropolitan.

Capitals 4, Maple Leafs 0

Alex Ovechkin added to his league lead with his 40th and 41st goals of the season and goaltender Braden Holtby stopped 32 shots for his seventh shutout of the season, leading the Capitals to a 4-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Capitals (34-20-10) snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory and moved within three points of the third-place Pittsburgh Penguins in the Metropolitan.

The Maple Leafs (25-33-5) lost 4-0 for the second straight night.

Jets 5, Kings 2

Andrew Ladd scored a pair of goals in the second period to pace the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

The Jets' captain scored his 21st and 22nd goals of the year, not long after defenseman Tyler Myers fired his sixth to snap a 1-1 tie.

Rookie goalie Michael Hutchinson stopped 18 shots for the Jets (32-20-12), who are now 6-2-2 in their last 10 contests.

Los Angeles starting netminder Jonathan Quick lasted two periods, stopping 17 of 21 shots.

Defending Stanley Cup champions LA (29-21-12) have lost three consecutive games after rattling off eight straight victories.
