Penguins 4, Capitals 3
Pittsburgh centers Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby had never gone an entire season without scoring a point against Washington and they were not about to make this the first in a 4-3 victory on Wednesday.
Malkin had three assists and Crosby added his 20th goal of the season to lead the Penguins to a narrow win over the Capitals at the Verizon Center.
The Penguins (35-17-9) avoided a series sweep and moved three points ahead of the Capitals (33-19-10) in the Metropolitan Division standings, a point behind the second-place New York Rangers, who have games in hand on the Pens and Caps.
Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 21-of-24 shots to improve to 28-13-6. Capitals netminder Braden Holtby allowed four goals on 26 shots to fall to 29-14-9.

Flames 3, Devils 1
Left winger Curtis Glencross and center Sean Monahan each scored in a 48-second span over two periods and goaltender Karri Ramo made 26 saves as Calgary defeated New Jersey.
The victory enabled the Flames (33-24-4) to move past idle Minnesota into eighth place in the Western Conference standings and improve to 1-1 on their current season-long seven-game road trip.
The Devils (25-27-9) saw their four-game winning streak come to an end. It also derailed the Devils' opportunity of reaching the .500 mark for the first time since Nov. 22.
