Nov 17 (The Sports Xchange) - NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the league's owners will not vote on expansion next month at the board of governors meeting in Boca Raton, Fla.

Seattle and Las Vegas are among the cities trying to acquire NHL teams.
"I know it's been widely reported that there's a deal and there's going to be a vote. There won't be any votes," Bettman said Monday in Toronto, according to ESPN.com. "All I'll do is continue to report on the levels of interest being expressed."

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta practiced and coach Mike Johnston termed him "a game-time decision" for Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
Maatta had surgery Nov. 4 to remove a cancerous tumor from his thyroid gland. He started skating again a week later, but the original prognosis was for Maatta to miss about four weeks. Tuesday will mark two weeks since the procedure.

The Minnesota Wild activated goaltender Josh Harding off injured reserve and then placed him on waivers.
Harding had 18 wins and a 1.65 goals-against average in 29 appearances last season, but didn't play after Dec. 31 because of issues with the medication he takes to fight multiple sclerosis.

The New Jersey Devils placed defenseman Bryce Salvador on injured reserve and assigned goaltender Keith Kinkaid to Albany of the American Hockey League.
The Devils also recalled defenseman Peter Harrold and goaltender Scott Clemmensen from Albany.

The Edmonton Oilers recalled forward Steve Pinizzotto from Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League.
Pinizzotto, 30, has posted six assists and 40 penalty minutes in nine games with Oklahoma City this season.
