Dec 14 (The Sports Xchange) - Pittsburgh Penguins star center Sidney Crosby was diagnosed with the mumps, the team announced on Sunday.

The Penguins said that Crosby will be monitored daily but expect him to be through the infectious period by Monday.
He has been ruled out of Monday's game against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning.
Crosby practiced Friday despite feeling ill on Thursday. He has not played the last two games as a precaution and is expected to have more tests.
The Penguins are the fifth team to be affected by mumps, joining the Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers. Some players on the St. Louis Blues have had symptoms similar to mumps.

The Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Jeremy Morin to the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenseman Tim Erixon.
Morin had 28 shots on goal in 15 games for the Blackhawks this season. He was a healthy scratch in the past 11 games.
Erixon has a goal and five assists in 19 games this season.
The Blackhawks also reassigned defenseman Klas Dahlbeck to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

The Vancouver Canucks recalled forward Tom Sestito from a conditioning assignment with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.
Sestito, 27, has an assist in two games with the Canucks this season and three games with Utica.

The Dallas Stars recalled goaltender Anders Lindback from the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League and reassigned goaltender Jussi Rynnas to Texas.

The Edmonton Oilers recalled defenseman Brad Hunt from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.
Hunt, 26, has one goal in six games with the Oilers this season.
