Feb 27 (The Sports Xchange) - With Matt Calvert sidelined indefinitely because of a concussion, the Columbus Blue Jackets placed the left winger on injured reserve and recalled center Brian Gibbons from Springfield of the American Hockey League on Friday.

The 25-year-old Calvert has contributed 10 goals, nine assists and 28 penalty minutes in 49 games this season.
Gibbons, 27, has five assists and six penalty minutes in 21 games this season for the Blue Jackets.

The NHL fined San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture $5,000 for slew-footing Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith.
The Department of Player Safety said Friday that the fine is the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement,
The incident occurred in the third period of the Red Wings' 3-2 win over the Sharks on Thursday. Couture was assessed a minor penalty for tripping and Smith was assessed a minor penalty for hooking on the play.

Tyson Strachan and Nikita Zadorov are expected to return Saturday against the Florida Panthers.

The Los Angeles Kings assigned defenseman Derek Forbort to the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL.
Forbort did not play for the Kings during his 15-day call-up.

The Boston Bruins recalled goaltender Jeremy Smith on an emergency basis from Providence of the AHL.
Smith has played in 26 games for Providence this season, accruing a 14-8-4 record, 2.08 goals-against average (sixth in the AHL) and .931 save percentage (fourth in the AHL).

The Toronto Maple Leafs reassigned defenseman Petter Granberg to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
Granberg, 22, has been held pointless in six games with the Maple Leafs this season.
