April 12 (The Sports Xchange) - The Toronto Maple Leafs fired general manager David Nonis and interim head coach Peter Horachek on Sunday.

The Leafs finished with a 30-44-8 record (68 points) and missed the playoffs for the second year in a row and the ninth time in the past 10 seasons.
Toronto also relieved assistant coaches Steve Spott and Chris Dennis, and goaltending coach Rick St. Croix of their duties.
Horachek took over for the fired Randy Carlyle on Jan. 7. He inherited a 21-16-3 record, but guided the team to just a 9-28-5 mark the rest of the way. Horachek was a former Nashville Predators assistant coach. He also coached the Florida Panthers on an interim basis in 2013-14, finishing with a 26-36-4 record.
Nonis was named general manager Jan. 9, 2013 after then-president and general manager Brian Burke was fired.
Toronto also fired director of pro scouting Steve Kasper and director of player development Jim Hughes.

The Florida Panthers signed 43-year-old forward Jaromir Jagr to a one-year contract.
Jagr, who was acquired by the Panthers in a Feb. 26 trade with the New Jersey Devils, had six goals and 18 points in 20 games with the Panthers.
Jagr ranks first among active NHL leaders in points (1,802), games played (1,550), assists (1,080), goals (722) and power play goals (204).

The 2015 NHL Draft Lottery, a weighted system implemented to determine the order of selection in the first round of the draft for the 14 clubs not qualifying for the Stanley Cup playoffs, will take place on Saturday night.
The Buffalo Sabres finished 30th in the standings and cannot pick lower than second overall at the draft in June.

The Montreal Canadiens signed 2010 fourth-round draft pick Mark MacMillan to a two-year, entry level contract, the team announced. MacMillan, 23, recently completed his fourth season at the University of North Dakota.

The Los Angeles Kings assigned forward Jordan Weal to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League. He has yet to play in an NHL game.

The New York Rangers reassigned center Ryan Bourque to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.
Bourque, 24, was recalled by the Rangers on Thursday. He recorded one shot on goal and registered one takeaway in 11:49 of ice time while making his NHL debut against Ottawa.

The Dallas Stars reassigned defenseman Patrik Nemeth to the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.

The Calgary Flames assigned forwards Emile Poirier and David Wolf and defensemen Brett Kulak and John Ramage to the Adirondack Flames of the American Hockey League.
