The NHL on Thursday confirmed that the league is aware of accusations stemming from an incident involving the 26-year-old Kane, who has an offseason home in Hamburg, located just south of Buffalo.

Kane, who just two months ago hoisted the Stanley Cup over his head to celebrate the Blackhawks' championship, is the subject of a rape investigation by the Hamburg Police Department, sources told the Buffalo News. No charges have been filed.

Sources close to the case told the newspaper that a woman has alleged that Kane took her to his Hamburg waterfront home and raped her after meeting in a downtown Buffalo nightclub Saturday night or early Sunday. The alleged victim went to a local hospital, where she was examined for physical signs that she had been raped, according to the report.

Kane is a four-time NHL All-Star who helped lead the Blackhawks in June to their third Stanley Cup title in the past six seasons.

The Anaheim Ducks re-signed right wing Jakob Silfverberg to a four-year contract.

The team did not release terms, but NHL.com reported it is worth $15 million.

Silfverberg, 24, set career highs last season in points (39), goals (13), assists (26) and plus/minus (plus-15).

Center Auston Matthews, the 17-year-old frontrunner to be the top pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, signed a one-year contract to play for Zurich in the Swiss National League this season. The announcement on Friday came after months of speculation that Matthews may play for Everett of the Western Hockey League.

Matthews, born in Scottsdale, Ariz., will not be eligible to join the Swiss team until after Sept. 17 when he turns 18. He scored 55 goals and 116 points in 60 games with the U.S. U-18 team last season.
