July 1 (The Sports Xchange) - The Tampa Bay Lightning signed 6-foot-6, 223-pound defenseman Victor Hedman to an eight-year contract extension worth $63 million on Friday's first day of NHL free agency.

The 25-year-old Hedman played in 78 games with the Lightning last season, collecting 10 goals and 47 points to go along with a plus-21 rating and 46 penalty minutes.

Arizona also reached deals with defensemen Kevin Connauton, Klas Dahlbeck, Jamie McBain and Jarred Tinordi, forwards Chris Mueller, Garret Ross and Ryan White and goalkeeper Justin Peters. Connauton signed a two-year contract, Dahlbeck and White signed one-year deals, and McBain, Tinordi, Mueller, Ross and Peters all signed one-year, two-way contracts.
