Blackhawks release trio of stars

The Chicago Blackhawks released defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky and forwards Tomas Kopecky and Daniel Paille from their professional tryout contracts on Monday.

Visnovsky, 39, spent the previous three seasons with the New York Islanders. He had five goals and 20 points in 53 regular-season games last season, and two assists in four Stanley Cup playoff games.
Kopecky, 33, has 68 goals and 106 assists in 578 NHL games. He played two seasons with the Blackhawks and won the Stanley Cup in 2010.
Paille, 31, had six goals and 13 points in 71 games with the Boston Bruins last season.

The San Jose Sharks assigned forward Timo Meier to the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL.
The 6-foot, 210-pound native of Herisau, Switzerland, was the Sharks' first-round selection (ninth overall) in the 2015 NHL draft.

The Dallas Stars reduced the training camp roster by eight players.
Defensemen Mattias Backman, Ludwig Bystrom, Julius Honka, Stephen Johns and Esa Lindell, and centers Travis Morin and Devin Shore were assigned the team's AHL affiliate.

The Winnipeg Jets reassigned 14 players to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League: John Albert, Joel Armia, Eric Comrie, Chase De Leo, Brenden Kichton, Scott Kosmachuk, Jan Kostalek, Andrew MacWilliam, Josh Morrissey and Ryan Olsen. Patrice Cormier, Matt Fraser, Matt Halischuk and Julian Melchiori also were reassigned pending waivers.
