Toews out of All-Star game, Wideman 'sorry' for linesman incident - NHL Round Up

Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews pulled out of the NHL All-Star game in Nashville this weekend due to illness.

Nashville Predators left winger James Neal was named to replace Toews.
NHL rules require a player named to the game who chooses not to participate to also miss the game before or after the All-Star Game. The Blackhawks announced Toews won't play on Feb. 2 against Colorado.

Calgary Flames defenceman Dennis Wideman apologized for cross-checking a linesman during a game Wednesday night against the Nashville Predators but was suspended for his actions a day later by the NHL.
Wideman said he cross-checked linesman Don Henderson unintentionally in a woozy scramble to get back to the team's bench at 11:19 of the second period. Wideman flattened Henderson with a hard shot to the upper-middle back but was not penalized for the blindside move.

The Los Angeles Kings sent forward Kyle Clifford to the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League for a conditioning assignment, the team announced.
Clifford has three points in 26 games with the Kings this season. He has missed the past 23 with an upper-body injury.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are loaning forward Josh Leivo to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, the club announced.
Leivo, 22, played four games for the Maple Leafs this season. He has 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 35 games with the Marlies.

The Washington Capitals reassigned defenceman Ryan Stanton to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, the team announced.
Stanton, 26, has four goals and 23 assists in 120 career NHL games with Washington, Vancouver and Chicago. He has seven points (two goals, five assists) in 30 games with Hershey this season.
