Sabres finish season with another win

The Buffalo Sabres finished their season with five wins in seven contests after a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders.

Sabres 2, Islanders 1 (SO)
Ryan Miller denied all three shootout attempts while playing in his 500th career game to make Thomas Vanek's tally in the first round stand up.
Keith Aucoin scored in regulation and Evgeni Nabokov finished with 21 saves for the Islanders, who ended the regular season with three straight setbacks (0-1-2) against non-play-off teams.
Coach Jack Capuano's club moved into sixth place - one point ahead of Ottawa and the New York Rangers. The Senators have two games remaining while the Rangers have one.

Oilers 6, Wild 1
Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle each had a goal and two assists as Edmonton won at Minnesota for the second time in 21 contests.
Corey Potter and top overall pick Nail Yakupov both scored twice for the Oilers, who improved to 4-9-0 in April and denied the Wild a chance to clinch a play-off spot. Nikolai Khabibulin made 38 saves for his first win since March 26.
Captain Mikko Koivu tallied for eighth-place Minnesota, which remained even in points with the Columbus Blue Jackets with one game remaining.

Blackhawks 3, Flames 1
Patrick Kane and captain Jonathan Toews continue to share the team lead after scoring their respective 23rd goals in the first period as host Chicago improved to 11-1-2 in its last 14 games.
Marcus Kruger scored to snap a 32-game goalless drought and defenseman Duncan Keith notched his 250th career assist.
Corey Crawford turned aside 25 shots for the Presidents' Trophy-winning Blackhawks, who will wrap up their regular season on Saturday at Central Division-rival St. Louis.
Defenseman Chris Butler's short-handed tally ended a 64-game goalless stretch and Joey MacDonald made 35 saves for the Flames, who finished their season with three straight losses.

Avalanche 5, Coyotes 4 (SO)
Matt Duchene and PA Parenteau scored in the shootout as Colorado spoiled Phoenix's home finale.
Parenteau added a goal and an assist in regulation while defenseman Stefan Elliott, Patrick Bordeleau and Ryan O'Reilly also scored for the Avalanche, who finished a league-worst 4-16-4 on the road.
Semyon Varlamov stopped all six shots he faced in relief of Jean-Sebastien Giguere (27 saves), who left the game late in the third period with an undisclosed injury.
Antoine Vermette scored twice, David Schlemko and Rob Klinkhamer also tallied, and Mike Smith turned aside 24 shots for the Coyotes.
