Chris Mazdzer led a first-ever United States one-two in the Luge men’s singles World Cup with victory at Lake Placid on Friday night.
It was yet more bad news for Felix Loch – the four-time defending World Cup champion – who, after being disqualified last week in the season opener, finished down in sixth after a poor second run.
Mazdzer posted a two-run time of 1 minute, 42.808 seconds to edge his compatriot Tucker West by 0.033 seconds. Wolfgang Kindl from Austria rounded out the podium in 1:42.848.
Two-time Olympic champion Loch had a comfortable tenth of a second lead after the first run but nearly crashed on his second run – losing time and finishing down in sixth.
This is the second year in a row that a Team USA slider has won the Lake Placid World Cup. West won last year and set the track record.
