The indomitable Felix Loch remains the man to beat after taking his fifth luge World Cup win of the season in Winterberg.
The German wrapped up a career 23rd World Cup victory and his third in a row, despite only winning once at the course before.
However his time of 1:45.361minutes was run close by Russia's Stepan Fedorov who trailed just 0.072seconds behind.
With just four World Cup races to go Loch is streaking clear in the overall standings, with 230 points now separating him and second-place Andi Langenhan.
Lanenghan finished down in 16th as the podium was completed by American teenager Tucker West, adding a bronze to his victory at Lake Placid in December.
Olympic champion Loch said: "I'm on a roll with three victories in succession. And that's although I almost crashed in the second run.
"I had to do some acrobatics to stay on the sled. My form is looking good for the World Championships."
