Tobias Wendl admits all of his and Tobias Arlt's efforts were geared towards retaining their luge doubles World Championship title this season - and the Germans proved it by claiming gold in Sigulda, Latvia.

The reigning Olympic champions improved the four-year-old track record set by Austrian now retired lugers Andreas and Wolfgang Linger to 41.929 seconds.
And that set the pair - who currently lie second in the World Cup rankings behind compatriots Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken - up perfectly to add to their 2014 title.
"We moved in the wrong direction with our material at the start of the season, and that really set us back in the World Cups," said Wendl. "That's why we've been concentrating on the World Championships. And that strategy clearly worked."
Wendl and Arlt clocked a combined time of 1:23.900 minutes, comfortably ahead of Austria's Peter Penz and Georg Fischler who claimed silver 0.136 seconds back.
Bronze was taken by Christian Oberstolz and Patrick Gruber of Italy on 1:24.157 while Eggert and Benecken had to make do with fourth place.
"This is just what we were hoping for," said Oberstolz. "It was our plan to win a medal here."
